Loudoun Communications, Inc.
Company
History
Loudoun
Communications began in 1975 in Loudoun County, Virginia, a suburb of
Washington, D.C. In 1978, the principals relocated to the Atlanta, Georgia
area where the business was reestablished. Loudoun was incorporated in
1982 under the laws of the State of Georgia. In 1985 the company purchased
property just off Camp Creek Parkway in Austell, Georgia, and constructed the
next shop and office facility. Then, in 2006, Loudoun moved to it's largest
venue yet, at Stitcher Court in Douglasville, GA. The company is wholly owned by
Gary, Norene, and Edward Poorman and consists of two major functional areas.
Commercial
Two-Way Radio Sales and Service
In
1983, Loudoun began a program of providing quality repair service and sales of
two-way radio equipment. Customer service was, and continues to be, the
primary mission of the company. Loudoun is a warranty service center for
M/A-Com, the communications division of Tyco Electronics. The company not
only maintains M/A-Com equipment (including the "forerunners," GE,
Ericsson, and ComNet), but also provides warranty service on Kenwood,
Vertex/Standard, Midland and Maxon radios. The company provides repair
service locally and nationally as radios are received from all parts of the
country. Beginning in 1995, the sales function became a larger entity
within the company, adding the Kenwood, Vertex/Standard, Midland/Maxon, and
several
other manufacturer's radios to the sales offerings.
Industrial
Projects
Loudoun
Communications is involved in industrial communications projects related to
Multi-point Data Systems, microwave systems, communications consoles, special
control panels, telemetry systems and the development of customized specialty
items not commercially available. The company's vendor list includes
Microwave Data Systems, Phoenix Contact and other SCADA suppliers.
Customers include MARTA, Cobb EMC, Cobb County Water System, and other power and
water systems throughout the country. Loudoun technicians installed and
assist in maintaining the EDACS (M/A-Com digital trunked radio system) for Cobb
EMC and Jackson EMC. The company also maintains the 6-site, simulcast
EDACS system for Henry County, Georgia, and will install and maintain the first
OpenSky system in Georgia in Newton County. Loudoun, in the past,
installed and maintained Emergency 911 communications consoles in the Georgia
cities of Hapeville, Smyrna, Peachtree City, and in Paulding County.
Additional services provided by the company include site survey and engineering
services for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint data systems.
